The Inge Morath Award, Landskrona Foto & Breadfield Dummy Award, PhotoVogue Global Open Call, Grants Ronan Guillou, Encontros da Imagem Discovery Award, PHotoESPAÑA Best Photobook and Talent Latent are among the opportunities we selected this month.

PhMuseum Days 2024 Open Call

Deadline 9 May / Entry Fee € 18-25

PhMuseum invites you to present your visual projects and share your interpretation of this year's theme. All approaches are welcome, you can also insert links to videos or installation shots in your applications. Through this open call, PhMuseum will select at least 4 projects for individual shows at PhMuseum Days 2024, up to 40 images for a collective installation at Archiginnasio di Bologna, and up to 20 works for screenings at PhMuseum Days 2024. Plus, as an applicant, you can claim your free daily pass to attend the festival.

The jury is composed of Giuseppe Oliverio (PhMuseum Days Artistic Director) and PhMuseum Days 2023 Exhibiting Artists such as Brea Souders, Leonardo Magrelli and Felicity Hammond.

The Inge Morath Award 2024

The Magnum Foundation and the Inge Morath Estate are pleased to announce the 23rd annual Inge Morath Award, a $7,500 grant given to a woman or nonbinary photographer under 30 to support the completion of a long-term documentary project. One finalist will also receive a $1,000 grant in support of their project. Photographers are selected by a jury composed of Magnum photographers, the Executive Director of the Magnum Foundation, and Inge Morath Estate.

Landskrona Foto & Breadfield Dummy Award 2024

Deadline 30 April / Entry Fee €30

Landskrona Foto & Breadfield Dummy Award seeks works to get published by Breadfield Press and Landskrona Foto during 2025. All expenses regarding the book prduction, including design, printing and distribution expenses, will be covered. The winner will be invited to Landskrona Foto Festival 2024, which will run from 6 - 22 September 2024 in Sweden, to receive the award. The jury is composed of Clare Strand, Jacob Birch, Jenny Lindhe, Philippe Séclier and Rasmus Vasli.

PhotoVogue 2024 Global Open Call

PhotoVogue welcomes artists who express themselves through photography and video to submit works that inspire change and foster hope under the theme The Tree of Life: A Love Letter to Nature. They seek works that offer a positive perspective, celebrating our bond with nature and focusing on the beauty and resilience of the natural world. Selected artists will be featured at the 2024 PhotoVogue Festival in Milan, and potentially in an issue of Vogue. The two artists who submit the most compelling work will also receive a $5,000 grant each, supporting their artistic growth. In addition, participants have the opportunity for 1 on 1 virtual sessions with industry experts, enhancing the global and diverse nature of this endeavor.

The jury comprises a diverse array of specialists, including Aditi Mayer, Alessia Glaviano, Ayisha Siddiqa, Christoph Wiesner, Damarice Amao, Daniel Rodriguez-Gordillo, Fatou Jeng, Florence Bourgeois, Keggie Carew, Michael Famighetti, Milo Keller, Nina Gualinga, Olivia Anani, Sara Sozzani Maino, Sophie Buck and many others.

Grants Ronan Guillou 2024

Deadline 14 April / No entry Fee

Developed by the Eyes Wide Open association, the Ronan Guillou Grants are launched as part of the Civis Maritimus program, which aims to explore the relationship between Man and the Sea, and to challenge the essential issues facing the Ocean. Two authors from Europe and Mediterranean countries will receive €4,000 to produce a photographic project focusing on man's relationship with the marine world, around the Sète, Étang de Thau and the Golfe du Lion territory, during a residency period from May 7th to July 7th, 2024, with transport to and from Sète and accommodation covered.

Encontros da Imagem Discovery Award 2024

Deadline 28 April / Entry Fee €30

For its 34th edition, the Portuguese festival Encontros da Imagem focuses on Colonialism, with the aim to present different trends in contemporary photography. Five selected artists will be displayed in several public and private spaces (historical and monumental buildings, museums, galleries and others) during the festival held in Braga between September 20th and November 3rd, in addition to exhibitions also in the cities of Porto, Guimarães, and Barcelos.

The jury composed of Elina Heikka (Art historian, Freelance Curator and Writer), Vítor Nieves (Curator, Teacher, Researcher and Editor) and Paulo Cacais (Curator and Artistic Director of Album, Festival of Image and Contemporary Photography) will award one winner with a €1,000 cash prize. In addition to the five projects selected for exhibition, there will also be 15 selected to be part of a video projection during this edition of the festival. The production costs of the selected works for the exhibition will be covered in total by the organization of the festival, which will also cover two nights of accommodation in Braga on the opening weekend of the festival from the 20th to the 22nd of September, 2024.

PHotoESPAÑA Best Photobook 2024

Since 1998, PhotoESPAÑA has been awarding the Prize for the Best Photography Book of the Year, to recognize the significant role that the publishing industry plays as a means of disseminating photography. Authors and publishers of all nationalities who published photography books between March 1, 2023, and March 1, 2024, are invited to apply to the open call, under categories including Research, Creation, Bibliophilia, and First Publication. A curatorial team composed of professionals from the publishing world will be responsible for selecting the finalist books, which will be exhibited during the months of the festival, held from May to September in Madrid.

Talent Latent 2024

Deadline 21 April / No entry fee

Focusing on the theme of Cities, the SCAN photography festival organised by Tarragona City Council, has opened the call for entries aimed at artists who use photography as a tool or means of expression to explore the consequences of urban population growth and large cities. Érika Goyarrola, independent curator and Doctor of Humanities, will select the nine projects that will take part in the Talent Latent Exhibition, held at Tinglado 2 at the Port of Tarragona, Spain, from 18 October to 8 December 2024. Participating artists will be invited to attend the festival’s opening, with the organization covering two nights’ accommodation, the admission ticket for the catered opening event, and the admission to Full Contact professional meeting. In addition, for each photographic series exhibited at Talent Latent, the author will receive a one-time payment of €400 for copyright and exhibition fees.

Fotolibro<40 Open Call / Deadline 14 April / No entry fee

Any photographer or collective of Spanish nationality who has not reached the age of 40 by the closing of the selection is welcome. The Community of Madrid will carry out the editing and publication of the selected work in collaboration with Ediciones Posibles. The publisher will be responsible for the editing, design, prepress, printing, distribution, and promotion of the winning photobook that will be published by the second half of 2024.

Foto Publikacja Open Call 2024 / Deadline 22 April / No entry fee

Authors are invited to submit Polish publications where photography takes a central place – albums, catalogs, theoretical books and manuals, as well as limited self-published editions and zines. Submitted books should have their publishing premiere between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2023. Selected publications will be exhibited as part of the Fotofestiwal - International Festival of Photography in Łódź. Plus, the winning and shortlisted books will be awarded on June 13 during the festival opening.

Passepartout Photo Prize / Deadline 4 April / Entry fee €25

The 8th edition of Passepartout Photo Prize aims to support the development of talented photographers with no nationalities or theme limitations. One winner will be awarded with a €500 cash prize and participation in the annual exhibition that will take place in a fine art gallery in the heart of Rome in Autumn 2024. In addition, Exhibition Prizes and Sponsored Prizes will be awarded. Passepartout covers the cost of the venue, installation and promotion materials.
