Talent Latent 2024

SCAN, the international photography festival organised by Tarragona City Council, has opened the call for entries for Talent Latent, aimed at creators from all over the world who use photography as an essential and preferred means of expression.

Overview

The theme for this edition is Cities. Experts predict that by the end of the 21st century, two-thirds of the world’s population will live in large cities and metropolises. The SCAN festival invites artists who use photography as a tool or means of expression to explore the consequences of urban population growth and large cities. The works can examine the issue from a broad variety of perspectives: social, historical, cultural, personal, media, urban planning, ecological, religious, etc.

The projects and artists selected from this call will form part of the Talent Latent Exhibition. It will be held at Tinglado 2 at the Port of Tarragona, from 18 October to 8 December 2024.

Practical Info

Entries must be submitted using the entry form available on the festival’s website. The form must contain personal contact details, a brief biography, the title of the project or photographic series, a brief explanation (250 words), and a zip file (max. 25 MB) with a maximum of 18 photographs from the same series. If they wish, artists may include a PDF with complementary information to facilitate the jury’s understanding of the project. Projects in Catalan, Spanish and English will be accepted.

Érika Goyarrola, independent curator and Doctor of Humanities, will select the nine projects and artists that will take part in the Talent Latent Exhibition. Her decision will be final.

SCAN will invite the artists participating to attend the festival’s opening. The invitation will include two nights’ accommodation in the festival hotel, breakfast included, the admission ticket for the catered opening event (18 October 2024), the admission to Full Contact professional meeting (19 October 2024), and the lunch at the Full Contact premises (19 October 2024). For each photographic series exhibited at Talent Latent, the author or individual responsible for joint projects will receive a one-time payment of €400, including taxes, for copyright and exhibition fees.
