PhMuseum Days
International Photography Festival

The fifth edition of PhMuseum’s International Photography Festival revolves around the pivotal concept of Archipelago – a visual and philosophical investigation freely inspired by Massimo Cacciari’s reflections on the topology of a continent and wandering within the context of the crisis of modernity.

In an era of fragmentation and fluid boundaries, the exhibitions, book presentations, workshops, and panel discussions will create a space for archipelagic thought. Here, aesthetic and conceptual diversities will engage in dialogue within an open system, reflecting the complexities of the contemporary world.

The core of the exhibition program will take place at the Ex Ospedale dei Bastardini, to then spread across the city, reaching the Cortile dell’Archiginnasio, the former municipality billboards in collaboration with CHEAP, and the PhMuseum Lab. An OFF Circuit will further broaden the scope of the festival, involving local independent spaces and galleries.

The second edition of our book fair Photobook Mania will run concurrently on October 3–4 at Serra Madre, Giardini Margherita – a green hub entirely dedicated to printed matter, bringing together international publishers and artists.

CLOSER

4th edition, 2024

The theme CLOSER was an opportunity to reflect on our perception of things and on the way it changes when we look more carefully, or from a different point of view. We live in an era in which it is not possible to imagine any objective detachment between us and reality. Observation itself touches and changes things, every story is contamination. The works on show do not attempt to achieve an impossible neutrality, but accept the partiality that comes from looking closely. They make intimacy their strength: in interpersonal relationships as much as in that with the territory, with history, and with living beings.

Solo exhibitions by: Taysir Batniji, David De Beyter, Camilla de Maffei, Beatriz de Souza Lima, Mahalia Taje Giotto, Utu-Tuuli Jussila, Kush Kukreja, Thomas Mailaender, Matylda Niżegorodcew, Carolina Pimenta, Rita Puig-Serra, Emma Sarpaniemi, Pacifico Silano, Tara L. C. Sood.

Through the works on display we have tried to understand how our relationship with technology and our ways of communicating evolve in a world characterized by continuous innovations.
