In collaboration with MAST Foundation, Photobook Mania will be preceded by a talk titled Speculative Documentary Photography held by photographer Max Pinckers.
Following an introduction by PhMuseum Founding and Artistic Director Giuseppe Oliverio, Max will give an improvised talk in which he speculates about his own practice in relation to documentary photography.
The exhibition presents the photobook prototypes developed during the fifth edition of FOLIO - PhMuseum Online Masterclass On Photobook. Over the course of eight months, a group of 14 participants worked under the guidance of Loose Joints co-founder Lewis Chaplin with the aim of concluding a body of work and having it ready for publishing. The initiative is an opportunity to reflect on transforming photographs into cohesive narratives within the physical format of a book.
A jury composed by Max Pinckers, Yumi Goto, Karla Hiraldo-Voleau, Giuseppe Oliverio and Camilla Marrese selected 30 photobook projects from the Open Call for a dedicated display at Serra Madre.
The exhibition presents a selection of titles from the PhMuseum Lab library in Bologna, curated by Small Photobook Cult, a homely podcast about photobooks hosted by Gabriele Chiapparini.
Dummy Deep Dive is aimed at photographers and artists who are in the midst of developing a photobook dummy of their own, or have the ambitions to do so with a recent body of work.
The workshop is held by Aaron Schuman and organized by PhMuseum during Photobook Mania 2025, Bologna, on 18-19 October 2025.
