Fotolibro40 Open Call

The Community of Madrid, in collaboration with Ediciones Posibles, welcomes to apply for the VII edition of the open call.

Overview

Given the difficulties that young photographers often face in publishing their works in book format, Fotolibro<40 is a competition aimed at supporting and promoting young Spanish author photography through the publication of a reference book featuring the winning project. The program is intended for creators under the age of 40 and will be used to select a photographic project from among all submissions. The edition and publication will be carried out by the Community of Madrid in collaboration with Ediciones Posibles.

Practical Info

Any photographer or collective of Spanish nationality who has not reached the age of forty by the closing of the selection may participate. In the case of collectives, at least 50 percent of their members must meet this requirement, and they must designate a main representative or spokesperson. The theme is free. The work must be unpublished, never having been published in book format before. The artist must be the sole owner of the copyright of the work.

Candidates must submit a brief explanation of the project and images of the works, a CV, and a series of photographs sufficiently explanatory of the project. Physical dummies will not be accepted. However, if participants developed a dummy, they may attach a PDF with images of the photobook dummy and its design elements (cover, back cover, spine, some pages, sleeves, covers, separators, and/or any other added element). They should also indicate their technical data (measurements and finishes).

The Community of Madrid will carry out the editing and publication of the selected work in collaboration with Ediciones Posibles, a renowned publisher specializing in the editing and publication of photography books and catalogs. The publisher will deploy all its resources for the publication of the book. Thus, it will be responsible for the editing, design, prepress, printing, distribution, and promotion of the photobook. The publication of the winning project is scheduled for the second half of 2024.
