Discovery Award Louis Roederer Foundation, Premio Luigi Ghirri 2024, Getxophoto, Palm* Photo Prize, Joau Tunis, Hopper Prize, Focal Point and Gomma Photography Grant are among the opportunities we selected this month.

2024 Discovery Award Louis Roederer Foundation

Deadline 6 November / No entry fee

Since its creation, the mission of the Discovery Award Louis Roederer Foundation has been to showcase emerging art and artists. The winning works will be recognized with the jury award of €15,000 and a public award of €5,000. Projects selected for the 2024 edition of the Rencontres d'Arles will be accompanied by the festival team and Audrey Illouz, exhibition curator invited by Rencontres d'Arles. The Discovery Award welcomes organizations such as galleries, art centers, community spaces, public institutions, and independent exhibition spaces to participate. Each organization may present, in the form of an exhibition proposal, a single artist (or a single artists' collective working as a single artistic entity).

Open Call GFI | Premio Luigi Ghirri 2024

Deadline 3 December / No entry fee

Giovane Fotografia Italiana (Young Italian Photography) invites artists under 35 years of age to submit photographic series in line with the theme Contaminations. The candidates must be Italian or resident in Italy. The shortlisted artists will exhibit their work in a group show in the frame of Fotografia Europea programme, plus a financial reward of €1,500 for production, transport and travel to the festival. Prizes include the Luigi Ghirri Award (€4,000 + a solo exhibition), 3 artist residencies, and the participation of 3 artists in a portfolio review programme.

Getxophoto 2024

Deadline 20 November / Entry fee €20

The Getxophoto open call welcomes artists to apply with proposals from the field of image and photography that explore the theme of this year's Festival, Play. The winning artists will get the chance to exhibit their work at the Getxophoto Festival together with renowned contemporary visual artists, a €400 fee, accommodation, and financial support for travel to the festival. Applicants will have the opportunity to showcase their projects to jurors such as Arianna Rinaldo (Independent curator, photography consultant, photo editor), Irene de Mendoza (Foto Colectania Foundation), Ana Casas Broda (Hydra) and María Ptqk (Getxophoto Festival).

Palm* Photo Prize 2024

Deadline 30 November / No entry fee

Palm* Photo Prize is inviting all photographers to their new open call. The candidates can apply up to two images with no entry fee and no specified themes. Exhibited entries will be in the running to win prizes in the following categories: Judge’s Panel 1st place (€1000 Artist Grant), Judge’s Panel 2nd place (€500 Artist Grant), People’s Choice Award and a 'Mentorship Award’ by the photography agency Canvas Represents. Plus, 100 entries will be selected by Palm* and resulting Palm* Photo Prize exhibition at Melkweg Expo in Amsterdam in May 2024 and at 10 14 Gallery in London in September 2024.

Jaou Tunis 2024

The fixture of Tunisia's contemporary art scene Jaou Tunis is looking for artists employing visual media (e.g., photography, video, montage, multimedia practices, etc.) to showcase their work in an open-air exhibition along the iconic Habib Bourguiba Avenue in the heart of Tunis in the next edition of the festival, to be held October 10 to 26, 2024. The chosen artists will get the chance to develop their work with the guest curator Taous R. Dahmani and her team.

The Hopper Prize Fall 2023

Deadline 14 November / Entry fee 38€

The Hopper Prize is looking for six artists working in any media who will be selected to receive unrestricted cash grants totaling $11,000 for their Fall 2023 open call. In addition to grant recipients, the curators select a shortlist of 30 artists to have their work archived alongside grant winners and receive additional online exposure.

Focal Point – Capturing Community & Heritage

Deadline 13 November / No entry fee

Photoworks and English Heritage are seeking proposals from young artists aged 18 – 25 based in England for a residency program from January to July 2024 to develop a new body of work through sessions with an experienced mentor. A fee of £3,000 (inc VAT) will be paid to each of the three selected artists, plus a separate budget for travel and material costs and a fee to support community engagement activities.

Gomma Photography Grant 2023

Deadline 8 November / Entry fee €35

The Gomma Photography Grant seeks unconventional, daring work, with a focus on projects that investigate everyday rituals, and the photographers' own surroundings. Prizes include four cash prizes summing up to €2,000 in total, plus an honorable mention, a Best Documentary and a Best Black and White Award. All the awarded works are being proposed to external galleries and curators, and can potentially access publishing deals with Gomma Publishing Ltd and its network.

Der Greif X Grisebach: New Positions / Deadline 16 November / Entry fee 12€

Der Greif is accepting entries for a new opportunity in partnership with the esteemed German art auction house Grisebach. The selected artists will receive individual contracts with Der Greif and will get the chance to sell their work in an online auction at Grisebach Auction House, the market-leading auction house for photographic works in Germany.

Les Boutographies 2024 / Deadline 19 November / Entry fee 23€

With no established theme, Boutographies invites all artists to submit projects to be exhibited in the upcoming edition of the three-week festival of contemporary creative photography that occupies the Pavillon Populaire in the city of Montpellier (France) scheduled for May 2024. The festival offers accommodation for the selected photographers during the opening weekend as well as the transport of the exhibitions of the official selection.
