Prix pour la Photographie, Art Photo Bcn Portfolio Review, Light Work Grants In Photography, Foto Forum Santa Fe Award, Sguardi Plurali Open Call, and IWPA & TAF Photography Award are among the opportunities we selected this month.

Prix pour la Photographie musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac 2024

Deadline 11 March / No entry Fee

Since its launch in 2008, the Prix pour la Photographie by musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac finances the creations of three non-European photographic artists, or European citizens resident in overseas countries and territories and the outermost regions. Each laureate will receive a grant of €30,000 to complete an original project. Submissions should contain a summary and a note of intent describing the project, a biography of the photographer, their portfolio and, whenever possible, visual elements illustrating the proposed project. Past winners include artists such as Seif Kousmate, Fatoumata Diabaté, Liza Ambrossio, Gayatri Ganju and Collective Ritual Inhabitual.

Art Photo Bcn Portfolio Review

Deadline 10 March / Entry Fee €40

Art Photo Bcn Portfolio selects 8 artists to take part in a collective, round-table portfolio review session with a team of professionals including Roser Cambray (MNAC), Irene de Mendoza (Fundación Foto Colectania), Carmen Dalmau (EFTI), Gemma Planell (MACBA), Josep Maria de Llobet (IEFC), Roger Batiste and Xavier Francés (Còpia Lab), Marc Vidal (Lumínic Festival), Eugeni Gay Marín (El Observatorio), Mireia Plans and Arola Valls. Each participant will access a list of prizes aimed at funding, producing, and disseminating their work: one of them will receive a €2,000 award plus the possibility to take part in the Spanish fair's 2025 edition, and selected authors will be given the IEFC Grant Scholarship, EFTI Grant Scholarship, Copias Wall Award (production and exhibition), and Premio Lumínic (production and exhibition). The projects received through the open call will be evaluated by Gonzalo Golpe, Moritz Neumüller, Arianna Rinaldo, Jesús Micó, Simona Rota, Miren Pastor and Isabel Lazaro, focusing solely on the quality of the submitted work regardless of the photographer's experience and careeer.

2024 Light Work Grants In Photography

Deadline 1 April / Entry Fee €10

Light Work began offering grants to CNY artists in 1975 to encourage the production of new photographic work in the region. Three $3,000 grants will be awarded to photographers who reside in one of the following Central New York counties: Broome, Cayuga, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, Schuyler, Seneca, St. Lawrence, Tioga or Tompkins. Selected artists are invited to display their work in a special exhibition at Light Work, and their work will also be reproduced in Light Work’s award-winning publication, Contact Sheet: The Light Work Annual.

2024 Light Work Grants In Photography will run until 1 April, with an entry fee of €10. Discover more on their website.

Foto Forum Santa Fe 2024 Award

Deadline 5 March / Entry Fee €41

The award aims to give the winner the chance to share their work in the city of Santa Fe, supporting its production. The selected photographer will receive a two-month solo exhibition at Forum Santa Fe gallery, a $1,000 (€920) cash prize, a $1,000 (€920) gift certificate to Visions Photo Lab, and $500 (€460) aimed at the delivery and return of the work to the gallery. The second place award winner will receive a $500 (€460) gift certificate to Visions Photo Lab, 3 prints in their gallery art rack, and a two-month online gallery show featured on their website. Jurors are Bill Shapiro (Editor-in-Chief of LIFE magazine) and Alex Harris (Photographer and a Founder of the Center for Documentary Studies and DoubleTake Magazine at Duke).

Sguardi Plurali Open Call

In partnership with FIERI, CSC Carbonia of Società Umanitaria – La Fabbrica del Cinema, the Department of History, Cultures, and Civilizations at the University of Bologna, and with the collaboration of ARCI Nazionale, Camera Torino presents the second edition of this open call on the theme of migrations and second generations. Photographers based in Italy, born abroad and immigrated to Italy, or born in Italy with at least one parent of foreign origin, aged 35 or younger are invited to apply with an unpublished body of work. The jury composed of Pietro Cingolani, Yassin Dia, Monica Poggi, Viviana Gravano, Wissal Houbabi, Karim Al Makhtafi, Oleksandra Horobets, Andrea Tinterri and Marco Trulli will award three prizes respectively valued at €2,000, €1,000, and €500. The selected works, accompanied by a selection of images from other participating works, will be featured on the FIERI website and will be the subject of a traveling exhibition.

IWPA & TAF Photography Award 2024 For Women Photographers

Deadline 16 March / No entry fee

Organised by French non-profit International Women in Photo, the IWPA & TAF Photography Award aims at fighting the underrepresentation of women in photography. Open to photographers originating or residing in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine and identifying as female, the award will select a number of winners to be presented at the Tbilisi Art Fair in April 2024, an international art fair spotlighting emerging artists from Europe.

Fotobus Library Award

Deadline 15 March / No entry Fee

Fotobus Society is an independent project proposing cultural opportunities to students of photography, design, film, art and media, with Fotobus—a medium-sized coach with 32 seats—offering excursions and research trips. The Fotobus Library Award is an open call aimed at exhibiting photobooks during the Rencontres d’Arles and Polycopies festivals in 2024. The Fotobus will showcase one winning book and a shortlist of 20. All photo books published between March 2021 and March 2024 in an edition of at least 100 copies are eligible. One copy of each book must arrive together with the submission form via postal mail in Hannover, Germany by the deadline.

Portraits – Hellerau Photography Award 2024

Deadline 1 March / Entry Fee €50 (50% student waiver)

A jury comprising Carena Schlewitt (Artistic Director of Hellerau – European Centre of the Arts), Daniel Blochwitz (Freelance Curator and Lecturer), Prof. Angela Matyssek (Art Historian, Lecturer), Andreas Krase (Photography Curator at Technische Sammlungen Dresden), Stefan Krauth (Photographer) and N.N. (Guest Professor at Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden) will select a number of finalists to collectively exhibit at the Dresden’s Museum of Science and Technology. Winners will be announced at the vernissage in August 2024, and will receive cash grants of €5,000 (1st prize), €2,000 (2nd prize), €1,000 (3rd prize), and a scholarship at Hellerau - European Center for the Arts (residency prize). Along with the annual exhibition, a newly designed catalog will be published. Numerous solo exhibitions and public events will complete the open call's program.

Portraits - Hellerau Photography Award 2024 will run until 1 March, with an entry fee of €50. As a student, there is the possibility to access a 50% fee waiver. Find out more on their website.

Other Deadlines

Nuovo Forno Del Pane 2024 Outdoor Edition / Deadline 21 March / No entry fee

Artists aged between 18 and 35, domiciled in Italy, with a recent and documented activity in the field of contemporary visual arts, are invited to participate in the selection for the Nuovo Forno del Pane Outdoor Edition 2024. Selected artists will be granted an incentive of €3,000 for the start-up of research and possible production activities and will be offered a workspace in which to operate in the Bologna metropolitan area between April and July 2024.

Lucie Foundation Open Call Heritage / Deadline 31 March / Entry Fee €18

Applicants must submit a work responding to the theme Heritage, seen as an exploration of the traditions, history, and practices that form nations and the people in them. There are four different categories: Portrait, Family/Community, Still-life/Object, and B/W. The Grand Prize winner will get a $1,000 (€920) cash prize, a featured interview on the Lucie Foundation website, and a print of their awarded image. They will be part of the Lucie Foundation online exhibition together with other three winners, who will receive a prize of $250 (€231).

Kuala Lumpur International Photoawards 2024 / Deadline 31 March / Entry Fee €14-70

Photographers are invited to submit their work to the theme Make It Real - Staged Narrative in Portraiture. 40 finalists will have their portraits exhibited at Temu House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in July 2024, and included in digital projections at their partner festivals in 2024/2025. Three winners will receive $2,000 (€1,840), $1,000 (€920) and $500 (€460) each, while four students will be given a $250 (€230) prize. Entries are free for all students under 25 years who are enrolled in full or part-time photography and art related courses.

PEP Open Call - (Im)Possible Worlds / Deadline 31 March / Entry fee €5-15

For the 6th edition of the BPM, PEP invites artists to join them on a journey through (Im)Possible Worlds: confessions of defeat and promises for the future. Participating artists will be selected through an international jury of artists and curators including Anne Immelé (curator and artistic director of the Mulhouse Photo Bienniale) and Bénédicte Blondeau (PEP) and will participate in the PEP X BPM group exhibition in September/October 2024 as part of the Photo Bienniale of Mulhouse (France).

Centrale Festival Open Call / Deadline 31 March / No entry fee

Born in 2009 to promote photography and contemporary art, the Fano Centrale Festival invites artists Under 30 of all nationalities born after the 1st of January 1994 to submit their projects. The works will be selected by a committee flanked by Luca Panaro, artistic director of Centrale Festival, and by Marcello Sparaventi, president of Associazione Culturale Centrale Fotografia.
