Camera Torino is pleased to collaborate on the second edition of the Sguardi Plurali sull’Italia Plurale competition, a contest for young photographers on the themes of migrations and second generations.

Overview

The open call is organized in partnership with FIERI, CSC Carbonia of Società Umanitaria – La Fabbrica del Cinema, the Department of History, Cultures, and Civilizations at the University of Bologna, and with the collaboration of ARCI Nazionale.

The submitted project can have the characteristics of both documentary work and reportage, as well as make use of archives or embrace various forms of linguistic and creative contamination related to photography. The submitted materials must be unpublished and never presented to the public through exhibitions or publications.

Practical Info

Applicants must be based in Italy, born abroad and immigrated to Italy or born in Italy with at least one parent of foreign origin, age under 35 (not yet reached at the time of submitting the application). To enter the competition, submissions have to include a completed form with a brief biography illustrating individual or family migration experiences, a written introduction to the project (maximum 2,500 characters, including spaces) presenting the theme and setting, a release form for the processing of personal data, and 10 photographs.

Evaluation of the works will be conducted by a jury composed of Pietro Cingolani (Anthropologist, University of Bologna), Yassin Dia (Anthropologist, FIERI), Monica Poggi (Curator at CAMERA, Turin), Viviana Gravano (Brera Academy and Attitudes), Wissal Houbabi (Artist and Performer), Karim Al Makhtafi and Oleksandra Horobets (winners of the first edition), Andrea Tinterri (Curator and critic of contemporary art for Società Umanitaria), Marco Trulli (Artistic Curator and Responsible for Culture and Youth, ARCI Nazionale).

The jury will award three prizes to the top winners, respectively valued at €2,000, €1,000, and €500. The awarded works, accompanied by a selection of images from other participating works, will be featured on the FIERI website and will be the subject of a traveling exhibition.
