The theme of the ninth edition of the Portraits Hellerau Photography Awards is Singularity. Lens-based portrait photographers - in its widest sense - are welcome to apply.
Overview
A jury comprising Carena Schlewitt (Artistic Director of Hellerau – European Centre of the Arts), Daniel Blochwitz (Freelance Curator and Lecturer), Prof. Angela Matyssek (Art Historian, Lecturer), Andreas Krase (Photography Curator at Technische Sammlungen Dresden), Stefan Krauth (Photographer) and N.N. (Guest Professor at Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden) will select the photographers for various solo and group exhibitions. The exhibition halls of Dresden’s Museum of Science and Technology will feature the finalist exhibition for the fifth time in 2024. A solo show by the current artist in residence, and several other public events complete the prizes list.
Practical Info
Applicants are invited to apply with a series of up to 20 images or single works. When applying with more than one single work, multiple entries should be used. Video and installations can be part of the application.
The winners will be announced at the vernissage in August 2024 and will receive cash grants of €5,000 (1st prize), €2,000 (2nd prize), €1,000 (3rd prize), and a scholarship at Hellerau - European Center for the Arts (residency prize).
