CLOSER
Present your work to exhibit at the 4th edition of PhMuseum Days, our International Photo Festival happening on 12-15 September in Bologna, Italy.
The chosen theme is CLOSER: we live in an era in which it is not possible to imagine any objective detachment between us and reality. Observation itself touches and changes things, every story is contamination. The works we are looking for do not attempt to achieve an impossible neutrality, but accept the partiality that comes from looking closely. They make intimacy their strength: in interpersonal relationships as much as in that with the territory, with history, and with living beings. An invitation to open up, to share, to observe things more carefully, beyond prejudices and stereotypes.
We invite you to present your visual projects and share your interpretation of this year's theme. All approaches are welcome, you can also insert links to videos or installation shots in your applications. Through this open call we will select at least 4 projects for individual shows, up to 40 images for a collective installation, and up to 20 works for the projections. Plus, as applicant you can claim your free daily pass to attend the festival.
We look forward to reviewing your applications - together with a jury comprising photographers who were the protagonist of last year's edition - and to welcoming you to Bologna!
PhMuseum Days Artistic Director Giuseppe Oliverio, counting on the advisorship of last year's exhibiting artists Brea Souders, Felicity Hammond and Leonardo Magrelli, will select at least 4 projects that will be granted an individual show within the main program of the festival. Each of the selected photographers will receive a production budget up to €2,000+VAT, plus an artist fee of €300 and a contribution to cover travel expenses and attend the inaugural weekend.
PhMuseum Days Artistic Director Giuseppe Oliverio will select up to 20 projects among all of the submissions to take part in a collective video projection that will be included in the festival's main program and screened in a dedicated area every day.
PhMuseum Director Giuseppe Oliverio will select up to 40 images for a collective installation that will challenge the main theme of the festival. Eligible for this exhibition are both applicants presenting a structured body of work and those applying with a selection of images.
Like last year, the awarded artists images will be presented in a collective installation at the Archiginnasio of Bologna - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archiginnasio_of_Bologna - an iconic place that used to be the main building of the University of Bologna, and currently houses the Archiginnasio Municipal Library and the Anatomical Theatre, attracting thousands of visitors every week. The exhibition will run from 16 September to 30 October.
