Offender

Offender, a work in progress (2015-) occurs within Eastern Texas, investigating the relationship between the state's landscape and its reliance on the longstanding system of incarceration. Seven prisons dominate the area, and thrive on ‘recession proof’ economics. This project centers the Huntsville Greyhound station from which newly released inmates make their way to their previous dwellings (if any), with minimum support and increased rates of poverty and recidivism. It’s routine for the locals to turn a blind eye, as the majority depend on related jobs and economic promises. The repetitive nature of this led me to explore additional photographic capabilities; which combine landscape, macro, and paired images. With that, I aim to make sense of the seemingly normal upside down America.
