Go Get'Em Boy

My photographs juxtapose the tension between expected modes of behaviour as a Chinese man, together with rebellious or provocative counter-behaviours. I look to raise awareness of the misconceptions of the queer experience that still create a barrier between generations, by sharing my own experiences in a confrontation with these stereotypes. In this project, the audience takes on the role of the elders of the family, to examine the image of manhood I have created for my father. These bad performances and one-dimensional images are flawed, with contradictions hidden in the photographs that tell the story of an ‘effeminate’ homosexual man struggling

with the pressures of family and traditional patriarchal society
