Tra Noi by Roman Manfredi

Tra noi is Roman Manfredi’s first solo exhibition in Italy, a Spazio Labo’ production curated by Laura De Marco, designed to present the British artist’s most recent photographic works.

Tra noi was born with the aim of presenting Manfredi's work of recent years to the Italian public by bringing together two recent photographic works by the British artist – TRA and We/Us , in an exhibition that explores the meaning of identity and belonging through places, memories, and communities. The title evokes a space of connection, a “between” that serves as a meeting place, where categories are fluid and individual stories intertwine with collective ones.

Through photography, oral history, archival materials, and Super 8, Manfredi constructs a body of work that establishes a dialogue between the United Kingdom and Naples, recounting experiences that have often remained on the margins of representation. Her focus is on people who live beyond gender conventions, restoring centrality to everyday experiences and to the deep connection with the territories they inhabit.

Manfredi’s images create a space for dialogue in which photography becomes an act of listening, care, and visibility: the exhibition is the convergence of two distinct yet complementary projects, united by a shared interest in memory, the transmission of stories, and the construction of identity as a relational process, to reflect on the meaning of mutual recognition and belonging as a shared experience.

About the Artist

Roman Manfredi is a British artist who lives and works in London. Through analog photography, moving images, and sound, she explores the relationship between personal narratives, memory, and social contexts, with a particular focus on working-class communities and LGBTQ+ perspectives. In 2023, she created We/Us, the first visual art project in the United Kingdom dedicated to working-class Butch and Stud people. In 2024, she received the Jerwood/Photoworks Award 5 and first prize at the LensCulture Art Photography Awards. Her most recent project, TRA, is being presented for the first time in Italy in the exhibition Tra noi at Spazio Labo'.
