Middle Distance is an ongoing project exploring identity, memory, and place. It reflects the experience of being suspended between the past and future and contemplates the moments of stillness in the midst of a journey.
Middle Distance is a photographic exploration of identity, memory, and place, reflecting my transition from California to the UK. The photographs shift between nostalgia and discovery, seeking orientation within the British landscape. The title captures this psychological in-betweenness and describes the visual approach: a focus on the mid-ground, where layered elements and blurred perspectives evoke a sense of disorientation.
This body of work embraces uncertainty, inviting viewers to engage without predetermined meaning. Familiar spaces are abstracted, challenging perspectives, orientations, and time.
Middle Distance reflects the experience of being suspended between the past and future. It contemplates those moments of stillness in the midst of a journey — when we pause, examine our surroundings, and question whether we’ve arrived at our destination or are simply lingering between two points.
