I am a New York-based photographer, video artist, and sculptor from Spain. My primary focus is on photography because it allows me to combine performance, fashion, sculptural objects, and graphic design elements to build my own world for the camera. This world is often inhabited by characters and still lifes I create by blending everything from American and Japanese pop culture to Cantabrian mythology to figures from my own imagination.
I work intuitively in response to my environment and personal experiences, and my projects each reflect the current moment in my life. While my characters are constructions, the models portraying them are friends and family. I style them as dreamlike beings from alternate realities using handmade costumes and everyday materials from my environment. I shoot in natural locations, combining continuous light and flash to create bold and graphic staged scenes, full of bright colorful costumes and geometrically shaped objects. These costumes and objects are made from playful materials. In contrast, my subjects’ facial posture and expressions are often more sober, as I allow them to communicate through their own spontaneous gestures. Ultimately, I hope my work inspires people to create their own dream worlds where magical things can happen.
