DO IT T0 YOURSELF is a self-care salon in a funhouse mirror, where treatments become a carnival of freedom. It critiques beauty standards with irony and camp, repurposes cosmetics, and turns the body from battlefield to playground, celebrating body positiv.
“Do It To Yourself” is an experimental salon seen through a funhouse mirror, where conventional beauty treatments are transformed into a carnival of freedom and exaggeration. The project critically engages with the cosmetic industry, the constant pressure of self-optimization, and socially constructed ideals of appearance. Through irony, camp, and playful excess, the work questions the boundary between actual bodily imperfections and their subjective perception.
Rather than treating body positivity as a fashionable slogan, the project approaches it as a method of reclaiming agency over one’s own body, shifting it from a site of social pressure and control into a space of play and experimentation. Makeup products and beauty tools are reimagined as sculptural materials, used to create abstract compositions that foreground bodily autonomy and creative exploration.
Through auto-portraits, the project exaggerates imperfections—such as a hunchback, belly, or asymmetrical features—while also exploring exaggerated sexualized attributes, parodying cultural expectations of female beauty.
The project engages with feminist artistic approaches by treating the body as both medium and subject, embracing its flaws and opening up a space for reflection, play, and empowerment.
The project grows out of personal reflections on societal pressures, exploring questions such as: Do others see my hunchback or double chin? How much of body perception is real, and how much is projection? Instead of pursuing impossible ideals, the project turns self-improvement rituals into acts of play, exaggeration, and liberation.
