What is home? this is a love letter to my home.
The Vacation Home is a deeply personal story about my grandparents' house—a place where I spent 15 summers during school vacations. I spent almost 15 years there on summer vacation. and then in 2014, my last grandmother died, and the home was almost shut down. Family conflicts and property disputes left it abandoned, untouched, and forgotten. Family conflicts and property disputes left it abandoned, untouched, and forgotten. nobody was gone there.
One day, somehow, I got permission to visit that house. I had 30 minutes to spend on my vacation again. I entered the house and started documenting things. As I stepped inside, I was struck by the haunting stillness. The house remained unchanged, as though frozen in time, yet it felt utterly lifeless. everything was there as it was when I left a year back. but the objects, the corners, the space, they are all dead now with the layer of dust. Feels like an Ex-lover entering into the same love again that he had lost some years ago. but there is no hope in this now. While documenting these things, it reminds me of certain stories that I have heard from my parents and some phenomena that happened with me in this home, which I drew and painted on paper.
This project, which I began in 2020, had been paused due to the pandemic. Recently, I was fortunate to exhibit these works in Ahmedabad, India, showcasing drawings and archival prints that captured the essence of this bittersweet journey. Now, I’m envisioning transforming this project into a book—a collection of visuals and text that immortalizes the story of The Vacation Home.
