Thresholds

First, there is the Atlantic as we think we know it: a horizon line, sand, and waves breaking in the distance. Then, the gaze draws closer. And in doing so, something unravels, not the sea itself, but the idea we held of it.

Thresholds arises from this movement, from a way of storytelling in which every particle of foam carries within it the story of the entire sea. Observing a wave up close does not mean moving away from the subject; it means delving deeper into it, until the whole reveals itself within the fragment. These images offer a different way of seeing what has, in fact, always been right before our eyes. Conventional depictions of the sea, the static motif, fade away, giving way to a substance that defies naming: whiteness, texture, grain. The threshold is not a boundary crossed just once; it is manifold, for every wave and every particle defines its own moment of transition, its own sensation, singular and irreducible to any other. Beyond the formal beauty of the foam, this project seeks to make room for new sensations, ones that are difficult to pin down and even harder to control. Perhaps this is the truest relationship to nature: not dominating it through imagery, but accepting that it eludes us, slipping away at the very moment we think we have grasped it. Thresholds reveals the moment when it ceases to be self-evident.
