“This house means freedom to me” explores the freedom in the aunt / nephews relationship.

“This house means freedom to me” explores the freedom in the aunt / nephews relationship. The project is based on my experience with Manuela, Igor and Alice, kids of my two younger sisters.

From my point of view, a woman who chose not to have children, freedom means having the privilege of watching three adorable human beings grow up without the weight of motherhood, the repetition of banal activities that so wear their parents out. On their side, freedom is seeing me as a less repressive and sometimes more adventurous adult.

I started recording their birthday parties, school presentations and the trips we took together at the beginning of my career as a photographer. But as they grow up and the events in their lives become more complex, my wonder gains a touch of distress as I witness the pains and problems they begin to face.
