There is a secret place that lives only at night, until dawn. Many secret places, to be honest. In any city or town of Thailand. Places not marked on the maps and hardly visible, reachable through small dusty roads that lead into the void of the countryside or behind dark alleys as pitch. They are the secret brothels reserved for Thai people, where every night thousands of men and boys get drunk and meet young women in exchange for sex and attention. These brothels are mostly run by the underworld, which they, like us, often refer to as the mafia. Mind you, in Thailand prostitution is illegal but despite this none of the girls, except in very rare cases, is forced into the world of prostitution. Most cases are a conscious and deliberate choice. Dictated by poverty or the simple desire for easy money to spend on designer bags or a new mobile phone. The role of the mafia is therefore different from that of the mafia that manages the same rackets in Europe, in the East or in many other countries of the world. Here the mafia has a role of security, control of the territory and protection of the girls. Clan men are in charge of collecting drinking money from customers, "straightening out" those who do not behave appropriately, and avoiding police raids.
