The sun only comes afterwards

“The sun only comes afterwards” is the chorus of “The natural order of things”, music by Brazilian rapper Emicida. The song addresses the difficulties in the life of those who live on the poor urban periphery and go out to work at dawn. On the other hand, the lyrics values the relationships of affection that the night harbors. The singer thus exposes the injustices of the world but do not give up poetry.

The images in this series take on a disillusioned tone. They approach the circumstances in which, individually or collectively, we face losses, defeats, frustrations, disenchantments, fears.

Simple resources were used in the camera itself: underexposure, blurring or application of physical elements on the lens, such as adhesive tape or even gel alcohol. In post-production, the shades were split.

Deserted squares and parks, unused sports courts, empty streets, demolished dwellings, dark paths and other signs of abandonment evoke lost dreams. Permeated, however, by a certain lyricism, by streaks of light, they are also remnants of hope. As if there is still seed in what seems to wither. As if the nights knew that the sun only comes later...
