Inspired by traditional family photographs, The Baron’s comments on the importance of documenting those closest to us and the role photographs play on capturing our stories, relationships and transformations over time.

The following series documents a fictious family within a domestic setting, drawing from the visual codes of traditional family imagery you might find at your grandparents or relative’s home. The photographs are then printed and re-photographed as mise-en-scène, framed and displayed within a home. Through this process, the images mirror the way family photographs live on with us.

At once intimate and performative, The Baron’s invites viewers to recognize their own histories in the familiar rituals of looking, remembering and imagining family.

All photographs were shot on medium format film and handprinted in the darkroom by the artist.
