For many their form of releasing their worries is going to family members or to a therapist's office. To some it's going to the Salón and being heard while being treated with love. Terapia a Peineta is the continuation of Kiskeya Salón a project that shows the entrepreneurship of Dominican women inside Puerto Rico and how adversity does not stop them from persevering.

Kristy Salón located in Caparra Terrace, Puerto Rico is the center of peace for many women in the area. With the impact of Covid-19 a lot of uncertainty was quickly found in many small businesses on the island. For Kristy her faith in Christ helped her maintain a cool head in order to have the strength to uplift her employees and clients.

Walking into Kristy’s you quickly feel the calmness while worship music is being played. You can see the comfort clients have to talk about their problems, worries and testimonies all while having their hair washed.

“ I've been coming here since I was fourteen years old, which makes it 25 years of coming to what I call my therapy. As now a mother of three children, the Salón is a place I can have my alone time and I know I will leave feeling beautiful.” - Verónica Suro.

Maria Delgado, who has been working with Kristy for 9 years says that clients, especially through the pandemic were coming in being very depressed. For her, being able to support them by helping them feel better not only aesthetically but also internally is what makes her feel happy to come to work everyday.

Kristy's main goal with her small business is not to make money, but to be able to uplift others even when it's a bad day for her. She has a goodness and faith that can be felt through how her clients talk about their experience. Not only is she building a business, she's building a family inside a community that many times needs to be heard.

Sometimes strength can be found in the smallest places.
