Water: Our Source of Life

An ongoing project about water, the source of life. Water affects all life on earth in many ways. It is sustenance, it is where life begins, it is a spiritual connection. We can not live without it. Now, even more importantly, we must protect it.

Photos shot from 1986 to now. Using various types of cameras from Canon 5D to Pentax 35 mm film to various other digital cameras and iPhone.

Artist Statement Source of Life Cynthia Penter who loves to photograph water. Bodies of water. We refer to them as bodies of water, as if they are human. Many of my photographs over my life have been portraits. Perhaps I am creating more portraits by photographing these bodies of water. The bodies of water and the places from where water emerges are beautiful. Spiritual. Water is holy. Holy water. I revere water as a woman. It is the Source of Life. Where the water emerges, it is called the source. It is a source of all life on this earth, of our pleasure, of our sustenance. We can not survive without water. Humans begin inside women, submerged in water. Women are the source of life. “ Most of the human body is water, with an average of roughly 60%.” We use water for many purposes. We cleanse in water. And we must constantly replenish the water of our bodies. Therefore we must revere the water. We must guarantee the water remains pure. Clean. I have made these photographs over a long period of my life. Over a time period of forty years. I ask only that you view them and remember that we must all revere and protect the water. Our source of life.
