I explore the creation of“emotional landscapes”through an experimentation with seawater as a medium on sensitive photopaper. I built a geography of the sensitive linked to the salinity of water, revealing the interconnection between microcosm and macrocosm

In this project, I am constructing a geography of the sensitive linked to the salinity of water, revealing the interconnection between the individual bodily microcosm and the macrocosm of the universe at large. I explore the creation of emotional landscapes through an experimentation with seawater, imbued with its unique blend of salts and minerals, as a medium on sensitive photographic paper. Here, I embrace the idea that water is not just a substance, but a living and dynamic alchemical entity that holds within it the ability to convey a multitude of emotions.

I call these photograms "emotional landscapes" because they are the hidden narratives, the submerged currents of feeling that flow beneath the surface of the visible world. Traditionally, landscapes have been synonymous with an objective representation of the physical world. However, in this project, I challenge the conventional by venturing into the realm of abstraction, attempting to disrupt the usual boundaries of landscape representation, resulting in a series of images that defy categorization, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in a world where the contours of reality blur and emotions take center stage.

Within the profound intersection between the tangible and the intangible, scientific and emotional, I am captivated by human psyche’s capacity to evoke emotions through visual stimuli and I embark on a journey to construct a geography of the sensitive, intimately connected to water, where the output of landscapes transcends the conventional, entering into abstraction.

By working with analogue processes and natural materials like saltwater, rocks, algae and sand I am creating an intentional juxtaposition of emotional landscapes with the environment that not only captures the essence of our emotional experiences but also weaves a narrative that resonates with the ecological shifts surrounding us.  As we examine the smallest details of our inner worlds, we inevitably uncover reflections of the vast cosmos surrounding us. In this exploration, “to be closer" encourages a deep introspection, inviting us to recognize how the tiniest particles within us mirror the grandeur of the cosmos beyond. It emphasizes the interdependence and interconnectedness of all things, reminding us that in drawing closer to ourselves, we also embrace the magnificence of the world and understanding the Other. The work cultivates a multi-dimensional connection to ecology through art, inviting viewers to creatively reflect on emotions and the natural world.

Regarding technique, I have developed an experimental laboratory technique in which I work with unconventional methods, dilutions, and with lights on. It's a completely experimental technique still in development. The series includes photograms created in Italy and various other locations in the Mediterranean, including Greece, Croatia, Spain, and France. The series is still ongoing, and I will continue it during a 2-month residency in Lisbon this summer (june-july 2024).
