Silent Symphony

Silent Symphony reflects on the fleeting nature of closeness and the beauty of impermanence, tracing how melancholy, presence, and quiet moments can reveal an unexpected sense of vitality.

For Silent Symphony, I photographed people from my immediate surroundings and circle of friends over an extended period of time. Only when looking back at the images did a recurring melancholy begin to emerge—a sense of the fleeting nature of closeness, encounters, and everyday moments.

This led me to ask whether an awareness of finitude might paradoxically also hold a form of happiness. Perhaps knowing that a moment cannot last brings us closer to its presence. Just before something disappears, a particular beauty, intensity, and at times even a sense of lightness may reveal itself.

The series is a thought experiment in which an initially diffuse feeling gradually takes on a more tangible form through the relationships between the images. It is precisely in silence and moments of pause that a sense of vitality becomes perceptible. Like individual voices, the photographs enter into dialogue with one another, forming a quiet harmony—a Silent Symphony.
