This is an ongoing body of work which explores the idea of self and re-discovery in the year 2020. Through these photographs, I am looking at the year in retrospective, introspecting the psychological shifts and its continuing consequences. The unprecedented nature of the year 2020 brought monumental changes in the surroundings, the effects of which can be felt within too.
The coronavirus pandemic prompted me to revisit my archives and to re-image old photographs with newer ones, while questioning how can I create a newer body of work while being in the confines of my home. The use of various technological interfaces and its constant bombardment of information changes how we perceive ourselves, recasting relationships with ourselves and our surroundings. We have never been more connected and yet never been this isolated before. That isolation allowed a more profound understanding of the idea of self and its complexity, which started taking shape in this body of work, while using subjects like myself, family members, my garden etc. The uncertainty of the times we are a part of, the internalized dialogue of where I could be or I wish I was doing that instead of being in the present moment made me think about the contradicting notion of balance and how I'm always chasing the idea of a better tomorrow.
