Queens of the Fields portrays Moroccan girls and women who defy social norms to play football, reclaiming space in a male-dominated sport and affirming their right to joy, freedom, and self-expression.

In Morocco football is everywhere. You see it in the streets, on rooftops, in every neighborhood. Boys grow up with the game and it is seen as theirs. For girls it is different. They are often told it is not for them. Yet many keep playing. They take the ball and, with it, they take back space.

Queens of the Fields looks at how women in Morocco step into spaces usually kept for men. Football fields become places of hope. This project celebrates the courage of young women who play the game they love even when society tells them not to. By standing on the field, they challenge stereotypes and remind us that belonging can be redefined.

This work is also personal. I loved football since I was a child, but I only joined a club at eighteen after years of being told it was only for boys. Photographing these young women is a way to honor their persistence and reflect on my own path.

Through portraits, I want to capture both the joy and the fight that come with their presence on the field. Football here is more than a sport. It becomes freedom, expression, and a quiet act of resistance. These girls are more than players. They stand with courage. They remind us that the field is theirs too; hence the title. Queens of the Fields is both a celebration of them and an invitation to think differently about who belongs.
