Pieces of Her

A self-portrait series taken every day for over a month. Each image is a raw reflection of my mood that day and a search for the extraordinary in passing moments. Taken by me, of me, every day, mostly at my home.

"Pieces of Her" is a self-portrait series taken every day over a month, that explores the many facets of identity, vulnerability, and strength. It was a project I embarked on to push myself creatively and emotionally. Having survived a lot of trauma, abusive relationships and PTSD, I wanted to empower myself to be able to create what I wanted in the world without worrying about what people thought of me or my work. Getting bored of shooting for other people and losing my creativity, I also wanted to push myself to be able to pick up the camera in any situation, light, mood etc. and be able to create powerful images.

It also pushed me to reveal more of the vulnerable parts of my inner world as I went through the cycles of life I was experiencing. Having to pick the camera up every day whether I was sick, sad, busy or tired, meant that I needed to show more of what goes on emotionally in my life. Almost every image is taken at my home in Byron Bay, Australia, and has a story behind it, what mood I was in that day, or what was happening in my life. Each day has a series of images (one being shown here). Every image is taken by me, of me, without help from anyone else.

I feel, through intimate, fragmented moments, this project captures the subtle yet powerful essence of womanhood, where each image reveals a different part of the whole. It speaks to the beauty found in the raw, imperfect, and ever-evolving pieces that form who we are. This collection is a visual reflection of self-discovery, empowerment, and the quiet power that exists within every woman.
