New pastorals

.

Virgil, Eclogue 10.31-36, tr. H.R. Fairclough: Yet you, Arcadians, will sing this tale to your mountains; Arcadians only know how to sing. How softly then would my bones repose, if in other days your pipes should tell my love! And oh that I had been one of you, the shepherd of a flock of yours, or the dresser of your ripened grapes!

The series ``New Pastorals ́ ́ is a collection of land- and cityscapes. Often they are reminiscent of classical paintings, but from another side, various signs of modern civilization alway connect the viewer with contemporary times.

In my work I attempt to embed my personal experience into wider cultural, historical and geographical contexts. I try to dissolve, make not so obvious, various borders: borders between art and real life, between old times and current reality, between East Europe, where I come from, and places in West Europe, which I came across in my later life.

The pictures were taken on various trips to Ireland, Ukraine, Italy and in Germany between 2013 and 2015.
