New-Hope began with the portrait of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Tribal Princess 2017, Allie Rose Mosley. That same year, I arrived in the Unites-States from Europe, a white immigrant coming in indigenous land.
The portraits in the series are posed in reference to postcards standards. I meet people in fairs, historical events and political gatherings. In the series, I use postcards as documents and historical archives as well as a way to question stereotypes. I explore the role of oppression, profit and erasure that play photography in this business. This colonial photo market creates at the same time, a fantasy for the rest of the world. It was important for me to revisit this imagery because it is still imported in France as a folklore.
