All these photographs were taken at the Bomba Alta Center in Huambo, a center specialized in the manufacture of mechanical prostheses for amputees. The artisanal prostheses shown in these photographs were used by people who lost limbs because they stepped on landmines that existed in conflict zones.

These handmade prostheses, photographed by me, were used during the civil war, and adapted by their owners with all kinds of materials available. Each of these prostheses was probably used by several people, that is, whenever someone died, the prosthesis was handed over to another amputee who, at that time, due to scarcity of everything, modified it in order to adapt it to his body and used it.
