An afternoon in São Paulo's Japanese quarter.

Liberdade is the neighborhood where oriental immigrants live in São Paulo. At weekends, there are fairs and events open to the public. These images are from the Tanabata Matsuri festival, which celebrates the wisdom and desire of Orihime and Hikoboshi to hone their skills and work hard so that they can meet. During the festival it is customary to write requests on strips of coloured paper (tanzaku) and tie them to bamboo branches (sasa no ha), which symbolize purification.
