Le Jardin d'Iréne

In memory of the day in which the lens entrusted the suspicious eye of the blonde Irene for eternity.

For Iréne, the garden was a place to welcome and share, but above all to remember. Through portraits of friends, loves, family, she has preserved the memories of the warmth that that place contained for everyone. I found this archive of photos in two family albums among the stalls of the Porta Portese market in Rome, weeks apart from each other. By studying the front and back of the photos I was able to trace the name of the protagonist, Iréne, owner of the house, the city, Vevey, in Switzerland and the years of the shots, taken between 1937 and 1945. I wanted to work on this archive not by choice, but out of affection for a place and a person who, even if I will never meet, has also become a bit of my safe place.
