Wood, hammer, nail—classic building tools. In Konstrukt, photographer Benedikt Burger rebuilds identity: portraits from his rural German roots deconstruct masculine blueprints through candid studies of strength, doubt, and possibility.
What shapes the invisible structures that define our image of masculinity?
For Konstrukt, I return to my Bavarian homeland to critically question traditional images of masculinity that have shaped me. The focus lies on adolescence – a phase of transformation and the search for identity. Within familiar scenes, portraits emerge that reveal alternative expressions of strength and vulnerability.
By portraying people from my closest environment, intimate insights arise into the tension between personal authenticity and societal expectations. Konstrukt creates a visual space that invites viewers to question role models and to think of masculinity as an open, dynamic concept – without final answers, but with the possibility for renegotiation.
