Each work is a portrait of a specific artist: emerging, mid-career, or internationally recognized. Through these encounters, the project seeks not only to explore psychological depth and resilience, but also to bring visibility to the individuals shaping today’s cultural discourse while continuing to create in a time of profound challenge and transformation.

Pioneering the concept of Inner World Portraiture, the artist shifts the focus of portraiture away from physical representation toward the invisible structures of identity - memory, vulnerability, endurance, belief. Strength here is not performative; it is internal, quiet, and persistent. Within this framework, portraiture is liberated from the obligation to depict the human figure. The body may disappear; the face may remain unseen. What persists is essence. Installations, environments, and symbolic constructions become portraits when they transmit the subject’s inner architecture. What is portrayed is not appearance, but consciousness.

Working within her self-defined genre of Staged Documentary, Shcheglova merges documentary presence with constructed visual language. The subjects are neither staged characters nor purely observed figures; instead, they appear as multilayered beings - inseparable from their environment, shaped by it and shaping it in return. Their surroundings become spaces of meaning, imagination, and strength - environments where creative energy persists and expands.

In contrast to narratives centered on crisis and fracture, Innerland proposes a counter-gesture: an insistence on inner strength, faith, and creative vitality. The artists portrayed here continue to build, imagine, and inspire - affirming that even in difficult times, culture does not retreat but deepens. The project affirms art as a source of resilience and renewal - a space where beauty, optimism, and spiritual endurance remain active forces.
