In Passing documents roadside memorials across the American desert, where traces of loss appear as isolated markers within vast, continuous landscapes. Each site holds a fragment of a life, dispersed yet connected through a shared geography of absence.
In Passing is an ongoing series of photographs of roadside memorials encountered across the American desert.
These markers, often small and easily overlooked, exist as quiet traces of lives interrupted. Positioned within vast and ongoing landscapes, they hold fragments of individual stories while the world around them continues unchanged.
Separated by distance, each site stands alone, yet together they form a dispersed geography of memory. A network of isolated points, connected not by proximity, but by absence.
The work is less concerned with the events themselves, and more with how these sites are held within their surroundings. By photographing them at a distance, the images allow space to remain present, emphasising the relationship between place, memory, and what is no longer there.
In this way, the landscape becomes both container and witness, holding these fragments in quiet coexistence.
