Imprints

The submitted pieces are hand cut archival inkjet prints that are layered together with mixed media in between creating sculptural works.

My work seeks to provoke contemplation about our relationship with the environment. For two decades, I've photographed landscapes of my native Iceland, witnessing firsthand the impacts of climate change. This ongoing project is an exploration of these changes and by hand-cutting photographs in diverse patterns I aim to visually articulate the evolving landscape. Included in this series are human scale abstract landscapes that envelope the viewer and evoke our intimate connection to the land. Using a landform pattern symbolizes the gradual obscuration of landscapes over time. Recently nature's resilience has become a source of inspiration. Drawing from the persistence of life growing from concrete cracks, I cut and layer photographs in a similar pattern. These images signify renewal and hope, a visual testament to nature's remarkable ability to endure. I also intertwine branches that I have wrapped with photographs, weaving together elements of the landscape. This representation encapsulates both the devastation wrought upon nature and the potential for proactive human intervention.
