Imprints

The physical space of landscapes can be closely tied to a person’s identity and sense of being. Infused with personal history, the handmade composite, sculptural landscapes in the series “Imprints” are a re-creation of places and scenes combining photographs taken from my homeland, Iceland, and California where I have resided for the past 20 years. The fragmented photographic cutouts with juxtaposed textures, emphasize the imperfections of memory and the mind’s inability to retain and fully comprehend its environment. Utilizing human biological patterns, the work evokes the intimate connection man has with nature while the discontinuity between the images invites the viewer to draw on their own experiences to complete the work. Including topographical patterns as well as images where parts of the landscape have been erased, the work echoes the erosive effects of time and the loss created by climate change. By incorporating the interplay between man and nature, the images speak to our individual responsibility for our impressions upon our environment.
