This project is a magical-realist escape to the moon, following cross-cultural mythological tales and rituals that have linked the femme to the moon for centuries drawing a portrait of the relationship between the moon, the femme, nature, and the body.
'I Love You Like The Moon’ is a portrait of the relationship between the moon, the femme, nature, and the body. It's a search for the people, places, energies, and things that radiate with feminine life. As the current political climate weighs on women, transgender, and non-binary communities, this project is a magical-realist escape to the moon, following cross-cultural mythological tales and rituals that have linked the femme to the moon for centuries.
I am fascinated by the way nature aligns itself in a rhythmic way at every level. With inspiration from the cycles I observe, I follow lunar patterns with the tide, natural rhythms with the body, animals that respond to the moon, nocturnal pollinating flowers, and flowers and plants often used in lunar rituals that tie us on earth to the moon. Eventually, through these rituals, my characters make their way to a lunar landscape.
For this project I photograph my friends, make self-portraits, alter and appropriate archival images of the lunar landscape and lunar beaches, and photograph animals, plants, and found objects.
This body of work embraces non-binaristic conceptions of gender. I’m also interested in alternative processes to express these cycles, either through printing processes or installative forms.
