Jacinta died in 1919 and Francisco in 1920 from the Spanish Flu Epidemic of 1918-1920. Lúcia became a nun and as Sister Lúcia lived until 2005.
Fátima, small farming village in 1917, became known worldwide because of the Marian apparitions and the town relies on religious tourism, with a considerable number of shops and stalls devoted to the sale of religious articles and souvenirs.
The city of Fatima exist because of the apparitions, everything is related to the catholic religion. The hotels of Fatima have private chapels where peregrines can eventually go.
