This series documents my family’s journey as we navigated the process of finding a home in a new country. It features a series of self-portraits and portraits of my husband, as well as landscapes and details that serve to contextualize this journey over the past four years.

The most natural way for me to become familiar with my surroundings is through photography: I use it as a way to explore, uncover things, and capture glimpses of beauty in the midst of uncertainty. For this series, I was taking photographs almost every day, keeping a visual journal, documenting my family’s domestic life, the space around us, and the quiet and intimate moments.

I started the journal just before the COVID-19 pandemic, when we were still living in Russia, and continued to add to it through our move and my immigration to the U.S. in 2021. We ended up finding our new home in Providence, Rhode Island, and a significant part of the series includes photographs from New England, while I was documenting our adjustment period there.

Self-published as a photo book, "Homejourney" explores the themes of love, adventure, family, and hope. It's ultimately about trying to find a place where you belong and trying to belong in the place where you end up.
