'glass'

I live in Wollongong, Australia. My goal is to try and reflect and understand the world around me. I think I share that goal with many artists and photographers. I think that's why I like photography, it helps me look at things for longer and in closer detail. I like that a photograph changes as you start to understand more about the world it depicts.

This is a series I have been working on recently. I feel that I have been slowly building this concept for a few years. I have gotten glimpses of what the images might look like or where these ideas might go but they have taken a long time to reach this form. These are all taken in the last few months and I am very excited to move forward with this concept and explore with it the world of installation. I will eventually print these as light-boxes and play with displaying them behind opaque textured glass.

My ideas have really developed along side the series, but I guess they started with the themes of clarity and transparency particularly in the media.

I am constantly frustrated at the ways I receive information through social media, newspapers, tv. I am in some ways aware of how ignorant I am about a lot of social issues and want to be able to see what is really happening with the world and what I can do to help. I find it hard to find clarity and that's what I wish to portray.

I thought a lot about the role of photography and film and the way these mediums have developed and changed as other mediums have.

I find the direction photography is going, really exciting. Today everything is so well documented, with everyone having some kind of camera in their pockets at all times. Documentary photography has become irrelevant if that's the right word. so many people documenting everything everyday, it's boring to me. I guess like painting changed when photography was introduced, there was a more accurate way of documenting life or the fleeting moment. What now, that it has already been documented from every angle in full frame 4k satellite, birds eye haha.
