Four Beds: One Space to Dream

A black-and-white documentary series exploring the daily struggles, limited privacy, and quiet resilience of students living in overcrowded university dormitories.

Inside university dormitories, four students often share a room designed for far fewer. In these crowded spaces, ambition coexists with humidity, limited privacy, and aging facilities where even the simplest daily routines become a challenge.

This documentary series explores more than student housing. It reflects the human cost carried by a generation that leaves home in pursuit of education and opportunity, only to face a daily struggle for dignity. Through my lens, I focus on the quiet moments that reveal the larger story: shared bathrooms, crowded rooms, the search for privacy, and the constant effort to maintain hygiene, faith, and hope in an environment where even clean water can feel like a privilege.

Photographed in black and white, the series emphasizes the contrast between youthful aspirations and the realities of institutional life. Yet within these confined spaces, resilience persists. Acts of care, routine, friendship, and perseverance become quiet forms of resistance against difficult living conditions.

Rather than assigning blame, this project bears witness to the lived experience of students who continue to carry their dreams despite the weight of their circumstances. It is a testament to endurance, dignity, and the determination to keep moving forward.
