Family Belongings

My photographs reveal notions of comfort, class, and universal aspirations to control and transcend our environment.  Upon close inspection, the images are fraught with instabilities and shifting realities, like oft-told but ever-changing family stories.

My photographs reveal notions of comfort, class, and universal aspirations to control and transcend our environment.  Upon close inspection, the images are fraught with instabilities and shifting realities, like oft-told but ever-changing family stories. Possessions, whether purposely displayed or haphazardly left behind, hint at relationships, preoccupations, and desires.  Mirrors, windows, and pictures on the walls layer the space creating and collapsing new perceptions. Objects and surfaces pretend to be something other than they are. These aspects give rise to tensions between real and surreal, genuine and artificial, domestic safety and anxiety.  The quiet moments of the images, devoid of human presence, perhaps belie the tangle of interactions that have transpired or are unfolding outside of the frame.
