In Every Cloud Has a Silver Lining, Jocham explores the fragility of photographic truth. Echoing Barthes’ “reality effect,” she transforms everyday analog images into layered distortions, revealing the image as both memory and manipulation.

Jocham responded to the theme with her series Every Cloud has a silver lining, exploring visual discourse on reality and technical intervention The artist experiments with analog small format photographs of her everyday life.

Central to the series is Jocham‘s interest is the dissolution of the photographic image. Roland Barthes once described a so called „reality effect“, an illusion of a reality or naturalness that photography creates in the viewer’s mind, also in a fragmented visualization. Questioning the photographic authenticity, she scans the negatives, prints the file, enlarges the print, moves during the scanning process and distorts the original image increasingly with each step. Nevertheless, in some pictures the original picture elements remain and only the background is given an artificial grid.
