This project is an intimate visual narrative exploring the dual transitions of girlhood and early adulthood through the intertwined lives of my younger sister, Thea, and myself.

This project captures not only the delicate and fleeting phase of Thea approaching adolescence, but also my own complex emotional experience of transitioning into adulthood. Marked by grief, nostalgia, and a desire to reconnect with the child I once was.

At the heart of the project is an emotional juxtaposition, while I document Thea’s growth with tenderness and admiration, I simultaneously confront the distance from my own childhood. The images oscillate between closeness and detachment, reflecting a dynamic of sisterhood shaped by love, longing, and emotional duality.

My current working title is ‘Dyfal donc a dyr y garreg’ which is a Welsh proverb that translates to English as ‘Tapping persistently breaks the stone’. The message of this saying is about the power of persistence, and is used to motivate individuals to keep going and to keep fighting when facing obstacles and tough times. It's a proverb that makes me think of the battle it was to get through adolescence, and even now as an adult, the persistence to keep going even when it gets lonely and hard.
