Deviations

I'm an Istanbul based Turkish photographer. I use documentary photography as my artistic medium.

As a photographer I'm interested in the intersection between social realism and surrealism – the fusion of the bizarre and the mundane. Coming from a hierarchical, traditional, and classist society, I have, for years, photographed people and places that were defined and confined by the strict tradition surrounding them. More recently my focus has shifted to those moments where I get the sense that individuals, even for a brief second, seem to have escaped the shared reality of the public spaces they inhabit. This series, called ”Deviations”, is a minimal collection depicting those eerie moments that stray from the everyday.
