By dint of being wind

This project talks about the discovery of 'emotional heritage', a feeling born from respect, fear and love for the mountain environment, revealed during an artistic residency at Lagazuoi spent in the cable car guesthouse

Luna doesn't speak on the path that leads up from the lake, I hear the steel tips of the

rackets hitting the path at regular intervals, first close, then far away, then closer still. What was there before the silence?

why is it hard for me to breathe? why do you like the wind and the rock is no longer cold? why do you like not seeing a sunset but sitting in the clouds with the humidity sitting on the terrace of the refuge? What's this voice we know?

It is the emotional legacy, a thousand-year legacy of elective affinity with ‘little’ and with ‘too much’.

Little air, a lot of height, little comfort, a lot of space, little breath, a lot of time, a lot time that clearly passes at a slow pace. It's the convinced feeling that you share a space already lived in, that vibrate to the sound of the wind, that you leave it enter through the cantilevered window overlooking the valley.

The guys rest downstairs, some are reading, some are sleeping, some are looking into the distance through the double glass, the scanner repeats its passes on the negatives.

There are enormous white profiles, indefinite high-altitude characters climbing on the south wall and then expand over our heads and as they leave room for blue glimpses, Luca places the filter between the edges of the rolling paper. We are so small. But do you feel the wind? Do you see it?

We walk along the wide path that leads to the top of the Small Lagazuoi and the visibility is reduced. I changed direction and quickly returned towards the large terrace made of wood, wouldn't it be nice to get lost? Always so rigidly indoctrinated to follow a outlined path, always so obstinately self-preserving.

These are the last steps on the path. The cables of the cable car stop flowing, Andrea locks the door, Simone gets out of the cabin on the last ride of the day towards the valley.

It's my favorite moment, when it's just us up here. The mountain is our tender lover and we, by dint of being wind, are madly fall in love with her.

'By dint of being wind' is a crescendo of slowness of a shared path on high altitude during an artistic residency of 1 week in Lagazuoi summit in July 2023. The time spent in the cable car guesthouse was an opportunity for me to give a name to an articulated feeling for the mountain environment, a feeling which is respect, fear, attachment, curiosity: the emotional inheritance. My mates and I have explored a space that quickly became familiar, experiencing distance and proximity to the same places, the different lights as the hours pass and moves of the clouds.

The long ridge of Lagazuoi is now for me a cradle of awareness and witness of sincere feelings.
