Banzai Kanpai is a project that blends Docu. with street photography; it’s a story born from the curiosity to delve into the streets, landscapes, and individual details of an island that, to Westerners, has always seemed distant and unreachable.

Banzai Kanpai is a project that blends documentary photography with street photography; it’s a story born from the curiosity to delve into the streets, landscapes, and individual details of an island that, to Westerners, has always seemed distant and unreachable.

Banzai is an exclamation of joy and enthusiasm, while Kanpai equates to our “cheers” or “cin cin”: a tribute, a toast to the people I met and to the feeling of awe that accompanied me throughout the journey.

For this open call, I selected ten shots that best convey my experience in Japan, attempting to convey its complex reality. The complete project comprises approximately 80 photos and was conceived for a hypothetical book print.
